On scientists speaking to the facts and avoiding advocacy; I think the scientific community are over talking through what is essentially agreed. They continue research and modeling, but essentially their position is that we are in an extreme crisis and the degree of crisis that gets revealed through further work pretty much only reinforces a known position.

There is a sense of helpless desperation in the scientific community that is familiar from disaster movies – you know – where Jeff Goldblum or John Cusak know what’s going on but nobody is listening.

They want action and they want it now. Small steps are acceptable for a few more months, but what they really want is urgent and extreme action.
